Piedmont Park South Meadow Restoration

The Piedmont Park Conservancy is restoring the 4-acre South Meadow — Atlanta's most-visited park zone — which lost 80+ trees to storm damage and emerald ash borer infestation over the past three years. This project funds the planting of 150 native hardwoods and ornamental trees: white oak, sycamore, sweetgum, and eastern redbud. The restoration follows the Conservancy's 2024 master plan, which prioritizes climate-adapted species and increased canopy diversity to prevent future disease cascades. A dedicated volunteer stewardship program will maintain the new plantings through a 5-year establishment period, with quarterly monitoring by the Park's horticultural team.
