Chastain Park Foundation
Atlanta, GA · Buckhead
The Chastain Park Foundation is creating a shade grove adjacent to the Chastain Park Amphitheater, which currently has zero tree cover and reaches 105°F on summer concert evenings. 80 mature native shade trees — live oak, southern magnolia, and bald cypress — will be planted in a naturalistic grove formation on the amphitheater perimeter, providing shade for 1,200+ concert-goers per event and restoring ecological function to this heavily paved park zone. The project uses a water-efficient drip irrigation system connected to the park's existing stormwater reuse cistern. Installation is timed for fall 2026 to coincide with the amphitheater's off-season.
