Vine City Food Access Greenway

Vine City, adjacent to the Atlanta University Center, has a tree canopy coverage of just 7% and ranks among the city's most heat-vulnerable neighborhoods. The Atlanta Urban Garden Council, in partnership with the Vine City Community Development Corporation and the City of Atlanta Office of Sustainability, is planting a greenway corridor of 160 native trees along the Norfolk Southern rail corridor — linking three existing community gardens and the future Vine City MARTA station plaza. Species selection prioritizes native understory trees and canopy oaks that provide summer cooling at street level. The greenway will also serve as a designated urban wildlife corridor.
