Lakewood Heights Pollinator & Tree Habitat

The Lakewood Heights Alliance, a neighborhood civic association working with the Atlanta Urban Garden Council, is developing a 1.8-acre pollinator and tree habitat on city-owned land adjacent to the Lakewood Amphitheater and the Southside Trail of the Atlanta BeltLine. This project plants 140 native trees — longleaf pine, sourwood, and black gum — alongside a half-acre native wildflower meadow designed with the Georgia Native Plant Society. The habitat serves as an outdoor classroom for nearby Kimberly Elementary and Tribek Hall Elementary schools, both of which have requested outdoor science programming. The Alliance has a 10-year stewardship plan with dedicated volunteer hours committed.
