Eastlake Elementary Canopy Expansion

About This Project

Eastlake Elementary School serves one of Atlanta's most underserved neighborhoods with critically low tree canopy coverage — just 8% compared to the citywide average of 26%. This project will plant 75 native shade trees on the school campus and adjacent street right-of-ways, dramatically improving the outdoor learning environment for 620 students. The tree selection prioritizes native oaks, hickories, and maples that provide food for wildlife and large summer shade canopies. Students will participate in tree care education as part of the school's environmental science curriculum, and the project is being matched by a $15,000 grant from the Georgia Urban Forestry Council.
