Harris County Parks & Recreation
Pine Mountain, GA · Greenway Corridor
Harris County is developing a new 80-acre municipal park along a former railroad corridor, and this project funds the establishment of a native forest plantation in the park's recreation buffer zones. 350 mixed hardwoods — including longleaf pine, southern red oak, and sweetgum — will be planted across 30 acres of previously cleared land. The Greenway Park project includes multi-use trails, a community garden, and an environmental education pavilion. This tree planting phase is designed to accelerate the park's ecological establishment by 8-10 years, providing immediate carbon sequestration and wildlife habitat while the park's other amenities are built out.
